Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson

By  BookishBearx

Another day, another review! I am still on ebooks, as we’ve still not come out of lockdown here in the UK and this is a book that I’ve been waiting for since I heard it was going to be a thing. Today’s review is for Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson. Now if you read A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, get ready to get excited because this is the sequel. That’s right we have more of Pip and Ravi’s adventures in Little Kilton.

Pip Fitz-Amobi is not a detective any more.

With the help of Ravi Singh, she released a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year. The podcast has gone viral, yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her.

But she will have to break that promise when someone she knows goes missing. Jamie Reynolds has disappeared but the police won’t do anything about it. And if they won’t look for Jamie then Pip will, uncovering more of her town’s dark secrets along the way… and this time EVERYONE is listening. But will she find him before it’s too late?

So the second instalment of this series follows Pip, Ravi and their friends as they embark on another case to find Jamie Reynolds before it’s too late. The police think there isn’t anything to worry about. Jamie has disappeared before, he always comes back. But Jamie’s family and Pip have this strong feeling that this time isn’t like all of the others. This starts to become extremely apparent as Pip’s investigation uncovers more secrets and surprises. Eye witness accounts of Jamie acting strange for days, an online catfish, and false identities. Where will the investigation take Pip next, how many more secrets has Little Kilton got to hide?

It’s always scary reading the sequel of a book that you have loved so much. You’re always worried that it won’t match up, it won’t be the same as the first and you’re going to finish the book being disappointed. So I was a little bit nervous when I sat down to start this read with my e-reader and a coffee at the ready. But honestly, Holly did a great job at keeping that character of the first book in the second. I am also really glad that the second book wasn’t just a carbon copy of the storyline of the first like some crime/young adult mysteries tend to be. They’re very stand-a-lone as well as cohesive. The second book is good on it’s own, not just because it’s part of a series where the first book was amazing, if that makes sense? I love that it is both strong alone and as part of a series.

One of the things that I really loved in the first book was the chemistry between the characters and it was no different in this one. The relationship between Pip and Ravi is still as fun and cute as ever. They make an awesome couple and you can’t help but love them and Pip’s friendship group is still great as ever, however we do see a change in Ant and Lauren. Which to be honest, is so plausible for high school students, without saying to much about what happens their change in behaviour seems like a plausible thing that could really happen. I liked as well how we got some reconciliation between people Pip hurt or upset during the first investigation in this book. And we learn more about some characters that we didn’t learn too much about in the first which is nice as well.

My one niggle in the first book was we never saw how the communities reaction to learning the truth about Ravi’s brother. Prior to learning Sals innocence Ravi’s family had been treated badly by the community and we didn’t really see how that changed when the truth came out that it was in fact someone else who hurt both Sal and Andi. But we do get a little bit of an explanation in this book which I really appreciate. I can’t think of anything that I am sad or disheartened about in this book if I am honest. I was engaged throughout and I was genuinely surprised by the plot twists. I am one happy reader.

All in all, I am happy with the book. I loved it. It had everything about the first book that I loved and more. I’d recommend this book for YA thriller/mystery fans everywhere. It’s an entertaining read and so well done. Holly Jackson has created an awesome little world in Little Kitlon and I sincerely hope there is more to come!
