The Whisper Man is a Mystery Thriller novel that is packed full of suspense. The edition I have was published under Penguin Books in 2019 and spans 389 pages. I have been fancying reading a horror/suspense book for ages, but I wanted to read a truly scary book. I am a big horror fan and I love scary movies and books, but I am a tough one to creep out. So I was down to give this one ago. I saw a girl on instagram talking about how scary this was and I thought “meh, might be worth a go” so I bought it from Waterstones.
Let me tell you straight off the bat. This book didn’t disappoint. It creeped me out from page one and I both didn’t want to finish reading it and couldn’t put it down. I was like a deer in a headlight, knowing I kinda wanted to run away and think of happy things like puppies, but also rooted to the spot needing to know what came next. It’s genuinely one of (if not) the best suspense thrillers I’ve read in a very long time.
I loved the characters, their back story and relationships were so well created and demonstrated throughout. The relationship between Tom and Jake was heart warming, and just made all the bad stuff that happens make your heart hurt so much more for them. I found myself rooting for them the same as I would someone I know in real life. I got lost in the little village of Featherbank, and to be able to be lost in this story was a real privilege.
But OH MY GOD the twists and surprises throughout this book. I think I got whiplash from the amount of times we got steered into a completely new direction, within a sentence. The plot twists were just legendary.

All in all, (I mean if you couldn’t already tell) I loved this book. It did its job, to terrify me. I was full on locking my doors and windows as soon as it started to get dark. Full on paranoia! Probably my favourite book that I have read so far this year. Would definitely recommend if you want a scary read.
