Review of Precious Hazard (Perfectly Imperfect, #11) by Neva Altaj

You ever stumble into a book that’s as chaotic as your life but somehow makes you feel a bit better about it? That’s exactly what happened when I cracked open Precious Hazard by Neva Altaj. As someone who’s often drawn to stories filled with enemies-to-lovers tropes and messy drama, I was practically vibrating with excitement at the thought of escaping into Tara and Arturo’s world. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

At its core, Precious Hazard is a delightful romp through the madness of an arranged marriage laced with mafia undertones. Our protagonist, Tara, finds herself blackmailed into marrying the enigmatic (and a tad dangerous) Arturo, who happens to have dealt with her creepy ex in a rather final manner. The tension is palpable right from the start, and I found myself rooting for Tara—partly because of her wickedly chaotic spirit and partly because, let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to escape an ex like that?

The writing style feels like a fun conversation—quick, snappy, and loaded with wit. The pacing swings between high-stakes moments and deliciously light banter that keeps your attention glued to the pages. There’s a spice level that borders on ridiculous at times, which, of course, makes it all the more entertaining. Does the love story seem lightning-fast? Absolutely. But in a world where a knife misses you by half an inch and billion-dollar negotiations hinge on the number of zeroes, who needs slow and steady?

Now let’s talk characters. Tara is a chaotic tornado of spirit and sass. She rocks a black wedding dress down the aisle—10/10 for attitude, but her challenges against Arturo’s controlling nature brought me mixed feelings. Sure, there’s a thrill in seeing a heroine poke at a villainous husband, but at times, I wished she would have channeled her energy into demanding more than a mere $12 million for a year of marriage (like, girl, you’re worth at least $100 million). Arturo, with his broodingly possessive traits, is hard to love completely. While his moments of vulnerability shine a light on why he is the way he is, his controlling tendencies made me roll my eyes more than once.

The angst between them is like a fine wine—you taste it, you savor it, and just when you think you can’t handle any more, bam!—you’re swallowed whole by emotion as they flip from “I hate you” to “I’d die for you”. Is it mature? Not really. But it’s absolutely fun and makes for an addictive reading experience.

In conclusion, if you’re in the mood for a dramatic, trashy mafia soap opera that brims with chaos, Precious Hazard is your ticket. It’s a wild ride that’s unfocused but engaging, and perfect for those times when you need something that doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you enjoy stories that blend high stakes with a side of spice, somehow mixed with a heaping spoonful of drama, this book is definitely for you. Just don’t look for emotional depth—embrace the chaos instead!
