Review of Ghost Business (Boneyard Key, #2) by Jen DeLuca

There’s something incredibly enchanting about a good haunted romance, isn’t there? When I first laid eyes on the adorable cover of Ghost Business, the second installment in Jen DeLuca’s Boneyard Key series, I felt an irresistible tug at my heartstrings. Cute ghosties twinkling in the foreground, a cozy small-town setting—it was love at first sight! I was intrigued to dive into this unconventional tale of Sophie, a spirited ghost tour guide stationed in her quaint hometown of Boneyard Key, Florida.

Sophie embodies the allure of small-town charm. She pours her heart into offering ghost tours rich with local lore, wrapping her community’s history in ghostly tales that charm both tourists and locals. Yet, her world shakes when Tristan arrives, steering a corporate chain that promises a glossy, “fake it till you make it” twist on ghost tours. The clash between authenticity and commercialization serves as the crux of the narrative, and as a small business enthusiast, I found myself rooting for Sophie with every turn of the page.

The atmosphere of Ghost Business practically whispers tales of serenity, reminiscent of places like Savannah and New Orleans—hints of moss-covered oaks and flickering lights. The writing style is warm and inviting, transporting you to those atmospheric streets. DeLuca’s portrayal of ghosts feels light and casual rather than spooky, which provides a refreshing angle. Instead of the fear factor, we get a unique exploration of community and support—something that resonated deeply with me.

As for the pacing, it flows like a gentle breeze, inviting you to savor Sophie’s journey. However, I did find myself hoping for deeper emotional threads between Sophie and Tristan. While they are undeniably likable, their chemistry felt a tad subdued, lacking that palpable yearning often present in slow-burn romances. If a bit more tension had been woven into their interactions, it might have added an extra layer of intrigue to their relationship.

One of the standout themes is the rallying cry for supporting small businesses. In a world saturated with corporate giants, it’s heartening to see DeLuca highlight the importance of community solidarity. The way local residents rally behind Sophie to preserve her ghost tour business offers a feel-good essence that left me with warm fuzzies.

In essence, Ghost Business is a delightful read that captures the whimsical essence of small-town life sprinkled with ghostly charm. Perfect for anyone who adores slow-burn romances, cozy ghost vibes, or community-driven narratives. Whether you’re a fan of the series or a newcomer like me, this book envelops you in a comforting embrace of familiarity that feels a bit like home.
