Finding Delight in the Pages: A Review of Finders Keepers

There’s something entirely enchanting about Sarah Adler’s romcoms that I can never resist. Perhaps it’s her ability to blend a sprinkle of magic with heartfelt storytelling or the way she navigates the intricacies of love and life. With her latest release, Finders Keepers, I found myself drawn in not just by the promise of a second-chance romance but also by the nostalgia of childhood sweethearts. As someone who believes in the magic of love—especially when it intertwines with adventure—I couldn’t wait to dive into this story.

Finders Keepers follows Nina Hunnicutt, a character who feels all too relatable. Returning to her small hometown of Catochin, Maryland, after losing her job and experiencing a breakup, Nina arrives feeling like a complete failure. All of us, at some point, have faced setbacks that shake our sense of self, and Adler captures this vulnerability beautifully. Can you imagine the surprise when, upon returning, she discovers her childhood sweetheart, Quentin Bell, living next door? The memories and feelings come rushing back, which is simultaneously thrilling and terrifying.

Quentin is a delightful character, embodying the charm and charisma that makes him unforgettable. Now back to renovate his family’s home after quitting a glamorous job in Paris, he’s undoubtedly more grounded—and yet, he manages to act like he never ghosted Nina. His quirky sarcasm and playful pranks often steal the show, providing a nice counterbalance to Nina’s serious self-reflection. I found myself laughing out loud at his antics and rooting for his character, even as Nina wrestled with her own doubts.

The plot thickens when Quentin proposes they complete a childhood treasure hunt together, promising Nina 70% of the treasure if she helps him. What starts as a reluctant collaboration becomes a sweet rekindling of their chemistry, and I felt the tension and attraction building as they spent more time together—what a beautiful depiction of how adventure can awaken dormant feelings!

Adler’s writing style sparkles with warmth and humor, creating a delightful ambiance throughout the book. While Nina’s endless self-doubt sometimes frustrated me, Quentin’s easy-going nature and clever insights made it easier to push through those moments. Their banter is particularly engaging, bursting with witty exchanges that kept me entertained.

It’s hard not to fall in love with small-town settings infused with magic, and Finders Keepers is no exception. The backdrop serves as a character in itself, echoing themes of forgiveness, growth, and the importance of home. Nina’s journey is relatable for anyone who has felt stuck or unsure, but it ultimately reminds us that sometimes the things we consider setbacks can lead us right back to where we belong.

As I flipped the last page, a contented smile graced my face, showcasing the heartfelt resolution of Nina and Quentin’s story. This book is perfect for romance lovers who appreciate a gentle blend of humor, warmth, and a dash of nostalgia. If you’re searching for a read that will wrap you in its comforting embrace, Finders Keepers is a delightful choice—one that might just leave you reflecting on your own life, love, and the little adventures that lead us home.
