Book Review: Hott Shot (Hott Springs Eternal, #1) by A.K. MacBride
There’s something inherently magnetic about small towns and the secrets they hold, isn’t there? A.K. MacBride’s Hott Shot drew me in with its promise of romance, family ties, and a dash of adventure, and it didn’t disappoint. As I delved into this first book in the Hott Springs Eternal series, I was charmed not just by the engaging storyline but also by the heartfelt relationships woven throughout.
The narrative kicks off with Quinn Hott, a brilliant scientist and a reluctant hero, who returns to Rush Creek after the death of his grandfather. He’s faced with the daunting task of running the family spa, but there’s a twist—he must serve as the receptionist at Hott Spa to uphold the family legacy. Now, if that doesn’t have you intrigued, I don’t know what will! The stakes are high, as his grandfather’s will comes with stringent conditions that could jeopardize the family’s land to a local mining company.
Quinn’s character is wonderfully complex. Initially, he’s a grumpy genius, more at home in his lab than dealing with the world. I found it fascinating to watch him struggle but ultimately evolve. His growing affection for Sonya—a strong, independent manager of the spa—adds a delightful tension to the story. Their chemistry is electric, and it’s refreshing to see two intelligent characters respect one another while navigating their tumultuous emotions.
Sonya, much like Quinn, is grappling with her own challenges. Having dealt with her previous receptionist’s betrayal, her fierce determination to keep the spa afloat is both inspiring and empowering. Their relationship blossoms amidst the chaos, balancing light-hearted banter with poignant moments. One standout interaction showcases their playful yet serious dynamic; it encapsulates the essence of trust that they gradually build.
MacBride’s writing style is engaging and accessible, inviting readers into the world of Rush Creek effortlessly. The pacing strikes just the right balance: there’s enough tension to keep you on edge, while the budding romance unfolds at a believable rate. Not to mention, the nostalgic nods to the Wilder Adventures series and the return of familiar characters made my heart flutter with excitement, reminiscent of old friends reuniting.
A few quotes resonated deeply with me. One particular moment reflects Quinn’s evolving mindset: “Sometimes, the things you run from are the things you need to face.” This sentiment echoes throughout the story and resonated with my own experiences of love and duty.
As I turned the last page, my heart ached not just for Quinn and Sonya’s journey, but also for the family ties that were renewed throughout the book. I found myself eagerly anticipating what’s next for the Hott brothers, and I dare say, I’m as impatient as Ruthie from the review team!
Hott Shot is a delightful read for anyone who savours heartfelt romance, small-town quirks, and the complexities of family bonds. If you’re a fan of witty banter and well-rounded characters, this novel is definitely for you. Plus, the nostalgic aspects will surely appeal to longtime readers of the Wilder Adventures series. In short, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy escape into a world where love and loyalty clash against all odds. Happy reading!
