Book Review: It’s a Date (Again) by Kirsten A. Scott

Hey, book lovers! 🌼

I recently dove into It’s a Date (Again) by Kirsten A. Scott, and wow, what a fun ride! Thank you to my buddy-reader, Cara, for navigating this amusing journey with me. Imagine waking up from a coma with no memory, only to find three dashing men claiming to be your boyfriend—that’s exactly the predicament our protagonist, Peyton, finds herself in! Talk about a wild plot twist! 😅

Peyton’s story unfolds with humor, romance, and the deep question of self-discovery. After getting hit by a car just when she thought she was ready to embrace love, she wakes up to three suitors: Nash, Tyler, and Shawn. Each man uniquely embodies traits that spark loyalty and conflict, making it a delightful game of "Who’s the One?" As a reader, I was thoroughly engaged in piecing together the puzzle of Peyton’s heart while laughing along with her quirky friends.

The characters were nothing short of delightful. 🧁 Peyton, our charming female lead, is relatable and endearing. I found myself rooting for her as she navigated the maze of amnesia, all while trying to discern who truly holds her heart. And let me introduce you to Mya, the best friend every girl wishes for. With a personality reminiscent of Ilana Glazer from Broad City, Mya adds a refreshing layer of humor and spunk to the narrative that had me chuckling throughout the book.

Ah, and then there’s Robbie—a sweet and caring figure who made my heart flutter from the moment he entered the scene. I know he’s not one of the main suitors, but he was the embodiment of what it means to genuinely care, making it impossible not to root for him to win Peyton over!

As for the suitors themselves:

  • Nash, the "Adam Levine look-alike", is a shy executive chef who just makes you want to swoon. 🥰
  • Tyler, our "less buff Chris Hemsworth", brought some blue-collar charm, but his ego was a bit off-putting.
  • Shawn, aka "Young Denzel", while standoffish, possessed a wealth of wisdom that grounded the lighthearted storyline.

One quote that stuck with me is: “The heart loves. The brain thinks. And sometimes, the two don’t agree.” Isn’t that just so true? It perfectly encapsulates the heart of the story, emphasizing the often tumultuous relationship between our emotions and logic.

Scott’s writing style is both engaging and accessible, enhancing my connection to the characters, and I never felt bored while flipping through its less-than-300-page narrative. Each page was filled with moments that made me both laugh and reflect. The pacing was spot on, with enough twists to keep me guessing until the very end! 🙌

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy that combines humor, friendship, and a journey of self-discovery, It’s a Date (Again) should be on your reading list. It resonated with me in such a profound way—reminding me of the importance of following your heart even when it leads you off the beaten path.

Happy reading, everyone! 📚💖
