I’ve been so invested in this book since I started reading it. I got so many messages from people who follow my blogs telling me how much they enjoyed it, so I did have high hopes. I initially didn’t plan on buying this book when I did my November haul, however one of the book sellers in Waterstones managed to talk me into giving it ago. I didn’t actually read the synopsis when I bought it as I had an odd amount from the buy one get one half price section, so I only had a very brief idea of what it was about.
As you can see from the photo, this book is striking and stunning. The cover is extremely bright with the flame embossed writing and the deer head silhouette really standing out against the yellow. The little tag line “Everyone’s invited. Everyone’s a suspect…” is so intriguing. It’s very brief but is written in a way that fully pulls you in. The synopsis is as follows:

It genuinely sounds so interesting. I was pretty much gripped from the beginning with this book. I love how it is told from different perspectives of the different characters and also how it jumps back and forth in time. It keeps the story interesting and makes trying to guess what happens so much harder. There was point near the end where in my head I was thinking right so this guy did it. He’s the murderer, and then the next thing I knew it wasn’t him at all. I was constantly on edge.
I don’t want to include any spoilers but Foley creates such an intense atmosphere in the book, with such beautifully developed characters and seamless plots. I genuinely think this could be one of my favourite murder-mystery books that I’ve read in a long time. I live the vulnerability of the characters, how genuine they all feel as you get to know them. The Hunting Party is sinister, thrilling and an amazing pleasure to read.
My only complaint, it ended. I got that that slightly lost feeling when I finished the book. Where you’ve completely lost yourself in the pages and now that you’re through it, you don’t quite know what to do with yourself. Big congratulations to Lucy Foley on this one.
