Synopsis:
When a teenage girl witnesses a carjacking gone bad, she is marked for death by a crime boss with no apparent motive. A black lawyer and a white enforcer with an unlikely history forge an uneasy alliance to protect the girl from a hit man with an agenda of his own.
After they find out that the crime boss is the father of the black teenage carjacker, Paul Elliott – lawyer and close friend of the witness’s family – begins counseling them.
As the long-simmering feud between Rico and John D’Angelo reaches boiling point, bodies start to pile up in rapid succession… and old scores will be settled.
Review
I don’t usually read the kind of crime novels that are about gangsters, so this series has really enabled me to read something different and a little out of my comfort zone. I did quite enjoy this book. The characters were just as likeable as in the first. I can tell the same amount of care and detail has gone into creating them and their world, their lives. The story was complex and well put together. There was a lot of suspense and mystery that made reading the book engaging and enjoyable.
I feel like I enjoyed to plot for the first book more, but that is merely down to personal taste. I have enjoyed exploring Rico’s world in this series and I am looking forward to reading the third book soon as well! I would recommend these books if you are looking for something that has good character development, complex plot lines and plenty of action!
